(This poem is set 600 years in the future)
Across deep icy waters
of vast surging sea,
waves break;
pounding rhythmically
against rusty,
forgotten structures.
These once majestic
symbols of power
and progress
are now fallen,
broken shells,
reclaimed by nature -
stark monument
to Man’s greed.
Flocks of seagulls
fly overhead
bringing food
to young,
nesting on landmark
outstretched arm;
familiar crowned head
barely visible above water.
Remember the New Yorkers
